Children’s Health Insurance Program (CHIP) is a safety-net health care insurance program for kids whose families aren’t eligible for Medicaid but also can’t afford private insurance. Children without health insurance may be able to get low-cost or free health coverage from their state’s CHIP program. Programs generally cover regular check-ups, immunizations, prescription drugs, dental care, eye exams, glasses and much more.
Each state has its own rules for eligibility and coverage, but the common purpose is to provide primary care for as many children as possible. Amerigroup has CHIP plans in 11 states, and we have supported numerous well-child initiatives in our markets. This year our flu season public service announcements have been read or heard over 24 million times—not just by Amerigroup CHIP members, but all of the citizens in the markets we serve.
