Amerigroup Now Serving Members in Kansas

VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (Thursday, January 3, 2013) – Amerigroup, a wholly owned subsidiary of WellPoint, Inc., announced it has begun serving members statewide in Kansas as of Jan. 1, 2013.

Amerigroup Kansas is one of three health plans selected by the state to administer KanCare, helping to coordinate physical and behavioral health care, as well as nursing facility and home and community-based services to approximately 380,000 residents enrolled in Medicaid and the Children’s Health Insurance Program (CHIP).

“For more than a year, we have been building relationships with providers, advocates and community organizations in Kansas, bringing jobs to the market and creating a foundation of quality of care and services for our new members,” said Laura Hopkins, Amerigroup Kansas chief executive officer. “It is a very exciting time to be a partner with Kansas, and we are all looking forward to the integration and enhanced services that we will bring to the people we serve.”

Amerigroup Kansas is providing services for members through Temporary Assistance for Needy Families, CHIP, and seniors and people with disabilities. In addition to standard services, Amerigroup Kansas members will also receive additional services, depending on eligibility.

Amerigroup Kansas has recently opened a new office location in Overland Park, Kan., which includes a customer contact center. The health plan expects to employ more than 350 associates by the end of 2013.
