John E. Littel, Esq

John Littel is Interim Senior Vice President, Government Affairs, WellPoint, Inc. In this position, he is responsible for growth and business development, including public policy and government relations. He also leads the company's social responsibility initiatives.

Previously, Mr. Littel led external relations for Amerigroup. He joined Amerigroup from the Bush administration where he was deputy director and counsel for the citizenship project at the Heritage Foundation. He has served in a number of senior positions in the federal and state governments, as well as the private sector, including as the deputy secretary of Health and Human Resources for the Commonwealth of Virginia. On the federal level, he served as the director of intergovernmental affairs for the White House's Office of National Drug Control Policy under George H.W. Bush.

He holds a bachelor's degree in political science and philosophy from the University of Scranton and a law degree from The Catholic University of America. He began his career in Pennsylvania as a regional office manager for the late U.S. Sen. H. John Heinz III and is a member of the Pennsylvania Bar. He presently serves on the College of William & Mary Board of Visitors.
